Old Fashioned Day 2010
August 29, 2010
The SAPBC Family celebrated Old Fashioned Day Sunday August 29, 2010 with the morning services starting at 9:15am with prayer and 9:30am kicked off our wonderful and growing Sunday School Services, with all classes learning from the main topic "Upheld By God." All awards were given to several students for quoting scriptures from the Book of Psalm as well as the young people quoting the Beatitudes.
Call to worship at 11am was done by Pastor Michael Hartwell asking the congregation to stand and all read Psalm 100 together. Brother Terry Moore opened up with a song, "This morning when I rose." Devotion by Deacon Christopher Seay singing "Got a Home," and Deacon James Curtis Smith, singing, "I'm so glad, Jesus lifted me” and scripture reading from Psalm 23 by Elder Alan Holman. The choir continued to embrace us with more heartfelt and spiritual songs such as,” Every Christian ought to stand up and testify," God is an awesome God," and "My Jesus fixed me." The welcome was done so open heartedly by Sis. Teresa Smart and Deacon Greg Rice. Prayer of Thanksgiving was given by Minister Buford Moore. Introduction of Speaker by Elder Calvin Moore. Morning Message was delivered by Elder Benny Waddle, Pastor of St. Rebecca P.B. Church in Pulaski Tennessee. Elder Waddle started off by letting SAPBC know if you ain't felt the spirit, it's something wrong. He let us know that this was his stomping ground and that he was called and chosen by God to preach, "All you don't hear me". Elder Waddle said his membership is still here, 1940 he found Christ right here at SAPBC. He reflected on the old mourner's bench, if someone wanted pray, the people would get them by the hand and lead them to the mourner's bench and pray for them. In the old days they would say "If you can't tell something, you ain't got anything. Elder Waddle's scripture reading came from St. Matthew 11:28-30, his text was “What have you learned about Jesus?".He let us know that God has been his lawyer, doctor and judge; he asked "Do you know him?" He talked about the woman at the well that had heard about him but had never met him. He asked her for a drink of water, and she said she had nothing to draw water with but in turn God offered her the living water in which she would never thirst again. He then asked where is your husband and she spoke and said she does not have one, God said you have spoken well because the one you have now is not yours. God told her to go on her way and sin no more. It is good to follow instructions from God; it's good to be obedient to the word of God. He asked again, "Do you know him?" He let us know that God is coming back for a Church without a spot or a blemish.
Invitation to Christian Discipleship by Pastor Michael Hartwell. He let us know that it is good to know science, English and math, but none of those things will give you eternal life. He asked "What have you learned about Jesus?" "Glory be to God" SAPBC had four to come to Christ: Eight year old Christopher Lewis and Mr. Richard Rice coming for Baptism and Mr. Shawn Caudle and Mrs. Sonya Seay for rededication.
Old Fashioned Day continued with afternoon worship with a soul stirring devotion by Mother Amanda Franklin and Deacon Roosevelt Verge. The Eternal Voices came with heartfelt words of praise in song “Worthy is He” and “Jesus is on the main line” and “Good News”. Elder Woodrow Kirby came with the scripture Psalm 37:23. Mother Annie Kirby led the congregation in singing Amazing Grace. Elder Earnest Jefferson, Pastor of Stephen Temple CPCA, Chattanooga, TN was the messenger of the hour. He took his text from 1 Cor. 15:58 using for subject: If you don’t stand for something, you will fall for anything. Elder Jefferson remarked he remembered how the Women used to visit each other’s homes and talk into the night hours and then walk each other half way home. People showed more love than they do today. We used to pray. Now you only have a few that will pray. You have to pray until you know you’ve been heard. We need to go back to some of the old ways. Too much division and the church can’t stand. Be stedfast; meaning to stand firm in your faith. Elder Jefferson continued by reminding us to Be ye stedfast and unmovable. “You can’t move me”. I’ve never met a man so willing to forgive. I’m going to get my crown that was specially made for me. If you don’t know the Lord you can’t stand. I remember what my Mother told me when I was young. She said you must be born again. You must have a relationship with the Lord. You can’t move me because God is keeping me. I don’t depend on man. I’m leaning and depending on God. When I see Jesus face to face I just want to say “Thank you Master”.
