St. Andrew Primitive Baptist Celebrates Family and Friends Day

By Sis. Ashlee Horton

On Sunday, January 31, 2010, St. Andrew Primitive Baptist Church celebrated our annual Family and Friends Day. The 11:00 service was led by Elder Michael Hartwell and the SAPB officers. The music was led by the SAPB Combined Choir. Scripture for the morning was John 15:13-14. Elder Hartwell delivered a message entitled “Being a Friend of Jesus.” He said that most of us want a friend and to be a friend, and that everyone needs a friend. He said that God created us to want a friend. When God created Adam it seemed as though he had everything man could need, yet He still created Eve, a help meet for Adam. Eve was not only a wife, but a friend. Elder Hartwell reminded us that we need to be friends in our marriage before husband and wife. Elder Hartwell also discussed what can keep you from being a friend with Jesus; things of the flesh and pride of life. Elder Hartwell reminded us not to love men and women more than we love God.

Morning service ended with Sister Teneeshia Ghoslston accepting the Invitation to Christian Discipleship and becoming a candidate for baptism. Pastor Hartwell then recognized the SAPB Kitchen Committee and church clerks Deaconess Lena Andrews and Sister Pamela Thomas for outstanding service to the church in 2009.

The afternoon service was led by Elder Columbus Waddle and the St. Elizabeth CPCA Church. Other special guests were Elder Clint Scales of Mt. Zion CPCA, Elder Ernest Bailey of New Heaven CPCA, and Elder Dezi Fletcher of New Hope CPCA Church. The scripture for the afternoon service was John 15:12-15. Elder Waddle delivered a sermon entitled “Fellowship with God’s People” using the scripture Galatians 3:28. Elder Waddle said that God is more interested in what you are than what you do. He is more interested in your character than your career. Elder Waddle said that God intends for us to experience life together in fellowship no matter sex, race, or nationality. We are all the same in Christ. He said that if you have fellowship with others, you have fellowship with God.

St. Andrew would like to thank all of our families, friends, and special guest for making Family and Friends Day a truly blessed celebration. We would also like to thank Sister Minnie Coleman, Sister Stephanie Lewis and the entire Family and Friends Day committee for all of their hard work in making this occasion a success.
