Choir Day 2010
St. Andrew PB Church where Elder Michael Hartwell is the pastor celebrated its annual choir day on Oct. 24, 2010. The celebration started in Sunday School, where the lesson scripture came from Psalm 47:6-7 “ Sing praises to God, sing praises: sing praised unto our King, sing praises. For God is the king of all the earth: sing ye praises with understanding.” The choir day theme emphasized that we must be steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord I Corinthians 15:58. The St. Andrew combined choir which was made up of three choirs; youth choir, sanctuary choir and male chorus, marched in on “I won’t give up” by Ricky Dillard and the New Generation Chorale.
Rev. Gary Battles of the Hurricane Chapel M. B. Church brought the morning message entitled “Hang on Help is coming”. The message text was from Psalm 121. Rev Battles encouraged the choir and the congregation with “no matter what the devil throws at you; God is our source of help; let Him help you, because he’ll protect you from your enemies and the elements.” Three souls (Shaunteia Fletcher, Shaneka Jolly, and Reighnettia Cooper) chose this day to be saved and be candidates for baptism. St. Andrew will baptize the three on the first Sunday in November.
The afternoon program was just as charged as the morning with Rev. TC Johnson and the St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church conducting the service. Pastor Johnson preached from Psalm 137:1-4 and encouraged the choir to “SING!” Our praise is in our song. Therefore, sing. There are many obstacles that will try to keep us from praising/singing. Sing when you are happy. Sing when you are sad. Sing when there is a crowd. Sing when there’s no one around. Support others as they sing. Sing songs that lift up the name of Jesus. Sing your way through.
The choirs also took the opportunity to not only recognize its musician, John Thomas, but also presented a plaque to Pastor Hartwell in honor of pastor appreciation month.
