SAPBC Black History Challenge

Challenge One

·        Who began the observance of Black History?

·        What is the significance of Black History observances?

·        Why was February chosen as the month to observe Black History?

Challenge Two

The Emancipation Proclamation was to usher in freedom and independence for African American slaves on January 1, 1863. Sadly, the news did not reach everyone, and for more than two years the circumstances of many slaves went notably unchanged. The jubilation of the arrival of the news of freedom is remembered and celebrated as an official holiday in one state to this very day. Give the name of the State and a brief history of this event.
