St. Andrew PB Church Honors Local Black History Makers
St. Andrew Primitive Baptist Church, Elder Michael Hartwell pastor, 1393 Swancott Rd. Madison Alabama, celebrated Black History on Sunday, February 06, 2011. Brother Tyler Jackson, St. James PB Church, presented the honorees in character as the 44th president of the United States, Barak Obama. “President Obama” educated the congregation on several familiar Black Historic figures. He then presented our local living Black History honorees: Beulah Toney, a strong African-American woman who was one of the founders of the Beautillion Ball; Clyde Foster, the former Mayor of Triana; Joe L. Foster; former police and fire chief of Triana; Henry James Cable, former police chief of Triana; A. Julian Smith, first black Real Estate Appraiser; Lamont Bridgeforth, fourth generation agriculturist; Richard Rice, Partner with the Vulcan Legal Group in Birmingham Alabama; Ray Greene, former Alabama A&M Head Coach; Thornton Stanley, founder of Stanley Construction. Pastor Michael Hartwell was also honored for his service to the ministry and to the US Army civilian service. Often our black History education is limited to people of the past. It was a blessing to learn about our local living legends and present them with their “flowers” yet while they live among us.
